Karat had raised Series A on the vision “Square for Creators” when I joined as head of product design. But we quickly realized we needed to explore two separate business models: a horizontal SaaS and a vertical concierge bank. As a result, one of my priorities was a flexible design system that would enable teams to rapidly test distinct experiences while preserving the coherence you’d expect from a financial platform.
